Happy Friday to the West Side! 500 subs last week, 600 this week. Let’s Go!

We’ve got a great weekend ahead of us, let’s get right into this Friday’s Anthem 👇

The Anthem is made possible in part by El Tesoro West End & South Downtown, a neighborhood treasure serving good quality food at reasonable prices. See the menu here.

🌮 El Tesoro West End’s event room is officially open for business and ready to host everything from casual hangs to full buyouts.

🍣 ASW Whiskey Exchange is teaming up with Chef Nikki of The Smokey Mango for a hands-on Hawaiian cooking class on May 23 at 6:30p. You'll make ahi tuna poke bowls, Spam musubi with a Fiddler Bourbon teriyaki glaze, and coconut butter mochi, plus a craft cocktail is included.

🍹 Strangers in Paradise is celebrating two years this Sunday (5/24) with drink specials, DJ Abby Dear on the ones and twos from 4-8pm, giveaways, and all the summer energy you'd expect from a place called Paradise.

🎱 Ormsby’s is open late Sunday night to make the most of the holiday weekend.

🏮 Smorgasburg's East Meets South AAPI Night Market is happening May 23rd from 4pm-12am and it's free. Expect AAPI guest and resident vendors, special food and drink menus, live music, performances, and more. Eight hours is a lot of time to eat.

🍊 Did you know La Bodega makes fresh squeezed orange juice daily? If you’re lucky, they’ll squeeze yours on demand.

☕️ Have you tried Sammy’s summer drinks yet? The menu is headlined by Florida Woman (Orange Shaken Espresso w/Orange Cold Foam) and has 3 other new options to try.

🍻 Monday Night is hosting their first ever traditional Kölsch service at the Grove on 5/23 and Garage 5/24. Grab a Stange glass, and a coaster to open your tab and drink responsibly to your heart’s desire.

🚧 Fix-ATL is a one-person sidewalk safety mission that's already flagged 16+ holes where water meter lids are missing across Atlanta. The project wants to build a real hazard database, streamline city reporting, and drop temporary fixes while permanent repairs get sorted. They need help with data analysis, woodworking, admin, and wood donations, so DM them if you want in.

🎨 Castleberry Hill Artist Market is putting out a vendor call for their monthly market during the Castleberry Hill Art Stroll on Friday, June 12th from 7-10pm. No vendor fee, and the application deadline is June 10th. If you make it, paint it, design it, or craft it, this one's for you.

🌳 Atlanta Parks jumped from #49 to #18 in the National Parks Index since 2021. The city's parks budget has also nearly doubled over that stretch, which tracks if you've spent any time in Brownwood or Gilliam lately.

🌿 South Downtown just got a new gathering spot. Founders Green opened at 110 Broad Street SW, bringing green space and community programming to the area. Movie nights, yoga classes, watch parties, and more are on the programming menu. Check it out.

Thank you for reading the West Atlanta Anthem! If you liked it, share with a friend. If you didn’t, reply and let me know why.

If you have something to share for next Friday’s email, just reply or send me a note at [email protected].

See ya next week!
